Donation Processing for Mission Partners
When your organization sponsors a trip as its mission partner, online gifts for that trip go to your organization, not to the coordinator. Here is how that works and what to set up.
Connect your Stripe account
- In GO, open Organization Settings and go to the Payments tab.
- Under Stripe Integration, click Connect Stripe Account.
- Finish Stripe's sign-up. It asks for your organization's legal name, EIN, bank account and a representative. Stripe may ask for more verification depending on your organization.
Once Stripe has verified your account, GO marks you ready and the trips you sponsor can take online gifts. Until then, their donate pages explain that your payment setup is not finished, and no gift can be taken.
Where the money goes
- Each online gift for a trip you sponsor is charged on your Stripe account. Your organization is the merchant of record.
- Stripe takes its processing fee from you at your Stripe rate. GO adds no fee. Donors may be offered the option to cover the fee.
- Stripe pays out to your bank on your Stripe payout schedule. GO never holds the money.
- The coordinator sees each trip's gifts in GO so the team can track its goal, but never your Stripe account or bank details.
Tax receipts
Because the gifts are made to your organization, you issue the tax receipts and year-end statements, from your own system and under your EIN.
Refunds and disputes
- You can refund a gift from your Stripe dashboard. An online gift is refunded in full, and Stripe keeps its original fee.
- If a donor disputes a charge, Stripe contacts you directly, because the charge is on your account.
If you use another giving system
Online gifts through GO need your Stripe account. If supporters give through your existing system instead, the trip's leaders can record those gifts in GO, one at a time or by importing a spreadsheet, so the trip's progress stays accurate.
